A full strip-out was required around the central core to make way for the client’s new meeting rooms, as well as new carpets, two new kitchens and two sliding folding walls. From an M&E persepctive, we were to strip out all the existing and increase capacity to support the desk & meeting room layout, replace some existing fan coil units in key areas, and a new condenser installed on the roof to support the cooling system in the newly formed comms room.
Four weeks into the project COVID-19 brought the UK into lockdown. Upon the government’s announcement on the twenty-third of March it was decided to temporarily shut down the project until the situation became clearer. Fortunately, in the weeks leading up to the government’s announcement (and for the entirety of the project), no cases were reported from the BOLP team, or any of our sub-contractor colleagues.
When the project was resumed on the twenty-ninth of June, we were faced with delayed deliveries, furloughed sub-contractors, as well as new building management rules affecting transportation of materials to the ninth floor. However, the experienced BOLP team on took all these issues in their stride, reacting quickly and anticipating unforeseen issues. Hard work and constant communication helped us to navigate this uncharted territory and produce a superb finish.
